The kind of food that you wait 1 hour for and slurp down in less than 15 minutes and think, damn, that was good.

A bit of a yakiniku obsession lately; ramen remains one of my favourite comfort foods; experiments; Laurent Bernard’s souffle and crispy chocolate tart were both excellent, and I don’t even usually like chocolate.

Shiitake and bacon quiche.

I found this picture from way back! I need to bring back brunch!

From Roost.
This is the kind of food photography I admire. The gorgeous lady behind the lens is just an added bonus.

San Francisco, CA.
If I lived in SF I would go to Ferry Building daily.

I have a bunch of saved drafts that I think I’ll throw out just to make up for the silence around this space. Man, do I miss baking.

Century eggs (皮蛋).
Something I used to only eat in piping hot porridge I am now able to appreciate with pickled ginger.

Scenes from Tai O (大澳), a fishing village west of Lantau Island (大嶼山) in Hong Kong; taken on film.

I’m trying to perfect carrot cake, starting with this carrot loaf. Loaf = less frosting = more likely to convince parents that this is breakfast.

Lemon tartlets.
//
I just fulfilled my first order! The downside: You can’t eat anything. The upside: If you’re lucky, you’re left with a little extra lemon curd, which is delicious when spread over toast.

Midday snack: Milk tea (奶茶) and egg tart.

Lemon cupcakes for birthday girl, Danie!
//
I dumped 12 chocolate cupcakes yesterday. My tale of woe in four parts: said cupcakes 1) were very difficult to make, 2) didn’t taste very good (unacceptable considering previous point), 3) grew mould after 2 days, and 4) reinforced my failure at making meringue frosting that doesn’t deceive me by being all successful-tasting and glossy at first before quickly degenerating into stiff, foamy egg whites. I blame humidity, my go-to scapegoat.
But hey, if you don’t make mistakes you don’t learn, right?
